Dior shows always scream glamour, elegance and sophistication - and this year’s Haute Couture collections for Paris Fashion Weeek was no different.
With Ladylike shapes and cuts, the dresses we classic dior with a twist - colours were often dark, gothic and moody, and sheer fabrics and plunging necklines gave the feminine collection a dark, seductive edge.
The make-up was kept classic, cimple and elegant, with clear, smooth, matte complexions all round with just a hint of natural blush for definition. Eyes were kept to a minimum with just a flick of classic black liner and black mascara, and lips with plump, peachy and matte. Think of a simplified 1950s pin-up look, and you’re halfway there.
The look was completed perfectly by the models bobbed hair, styled with soft, neat, feminine waves and curls, which flattered the models faces, elongated their necks and helped show off the beautiful bodices and necklines on the gowns.
To get the look at home, use a medium-large barrelled curling wand/tong to curl large sections of hair (remembering to curl away from the face at the front) and hold each curl for 5-10 seconds before releasing the hair from the curler. Spray each curl with a soft hold hairspray, like Paul Mitchell’s Super Clean Light, as it cools to keep those curls bouncy. Finish by brushing the curls through with a paddle brush, pulling them in a forwards direction as you do so, and then finish by reshaping the curls around the face with your fingers.
If you have long hair, curl the ends of the hair around your fingers, and then pin under at the back of the neck for a “Faux Bob”! Finish with a firm hold hairspray and you are good to go!
Got some old extensions? Braid them into a fishtail plait, and use to finish off a messy up-do for some serious extra style points this spring!
Now we’re well and truly into the new year, we’ve started our diets (and pigged out on those left over Mince Pies), tried our hardest to stick to our resolutions (and still had the odd weak moment of biting our nails), and now we’re ready to get a new look for a new year.
One of our favourite looks for a big change is to darken blonde hair to a rich, luxurious chocolate shade, which creates a dramatic change without giving up the warm glow that blonde hair gives fair skin. This equally works for dark hair, just perhaps go for a semi-permanent Shine-Treatment colour to give dark locks a gorgeous silky sheen and an extra oomph of colour!
Desperate for a change in cut but scared of losing any length? ask for a trim and get a gorgeous, heavy fringe cut in. It not only suits most face shapes, but it gives long hair a definite style, and is easy to style and look after!

Sleek, straight ponytails are great for work-to-party hair!
Simply straighten your hair, smooth a little Paul Mitchell Foaming Pommade through the front (this is great to give hair this slick, smooth look without making it look greasy) and smooth back into a high ponytail.
Take a small strand of hair from the ponytail and wrap it around the elastic (make sure it’s a snag-free one) and grip underneath.
Finish with a generous amount of Paul Mitchell’s Super Clean Light hairspray and this sophisticated look will stay smooth, straight and sexy all night long!

Rooney Mara looked stunning at the London premiere for Girl With A Dragon Tattoo.
Want to copy her stunning style?
Ask your stylist for a blunt, straight, block fringe that sit just above the eyebrows, and to keep any layers longer than your jaw if you have longer hair.
When it comes to styling it at home, use a large barrelled round brush to blowdry it smooth (remember to always keep the dryer blowing down towards the ends of the hair - this will help to smooth out the cuticle and ensure that movie star shine), and then if it still isn’t quit smooth enough, use a pair of medium straightening irons to pull smooth. Remember to always curve your straighteners at a slight angle when straightening to ensure a soft, natural finish.
Recommended products for this stunning look? We love Super Skinny Straightening Balm on wet hair, followed by a spritz of Hot Off The Press thermal protection spray if you need to straighten, and lastly finished off with a gentle spray of The Shine, to ensure you have that gorgeous, sparkling finish!
